How we work
Our editorial standards.
Useful repair guidance should show its sources, name its limits, and put safety before shortcuts.
Research and sourcing
We prioritise primary public guidance, university extension publications, building-science references, building codes, and manufacturer installation or maintenance manuals. Product claims, prices, and rules should be checked against current sources before publication.
Diagnosis before products
Basement moisture can have several causes. We aim to distinguish liquid water intrusion, interior moisture sources, condensation, and groundwater pressure rather than recommending a single coating or appliance as a universal fix.
Measurement and first-hand claims
We do not invent moisture-meter readings, before-and-after results, photographs, contractor quotations, or hands-on product tests. First-hand observations will be labelled with the conditions, instrument, dates, and important limitations. Reader worksheets are for recording the reader's observations, not evidence that the editor conducted a test.
AI and editorial responsibility
Digital tools may assist research organisation and drafting. The publisher remains responsible for factual claims, calculations, links, safety instructions, and updates. Generated text is not a substitute for source checking or qualified professional review; no expert review is implied unless it actually occurred.
Costs and uncertainty
Price tables are broad US-dollar planning ranges unless a guide says otherwise. They are not contractor quotes and can vary substantially by region, access, foundation type, water conditions, repair design, and date. Where figures are illustrative, we say so and link to current references.
Corrections and commercial independence
To request a correction, see our sources and corrections process. Any sponsorship, advertising, or affiliate relationship must be disclosed. Commercial relationships should not determine which repair solution an article recommends.
